Sector Working Groups (SWGs) have been inactive since their launch in 2008, but the National Planning Commission (NPC) has announced that the groups will return, as revealed by NPC director general Thomas Chataghalala Munthali.
Munthali hailed the development, stating that once revamped, the SWGs will also present an opportunity for Malawi to implement international commitments with national priorities.
Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development deputy director responsible for planning Adwell Zembere acknowledged that a few SWGs were active and functioning.
These inactive SWG were once involved in agriculture, integrated rural development and decentralisation, water, sanitation and irrigation, among many other crucial elements of development in the country.
