The civil society organisations (CSOs) that challenged President Lazarus Chawera’s recent appointment of 67 parastatal boards, have resolved to take the matter to court, as was said since the CSOs gave the president 7 days to reconsider the appointments.

The CSOs reservations are based on Section 11 (1) of the   Gender Equality Act (GEA 2013) which calls for a 60:40 representation of men and women in all public institutions. The CSOs feel that Chakwera violated the law, since out of the 67 boards, only 11 have complied with this law.

Lawyer for the CSOs, Wesley Mwafulirwa said after government did not reconsider the appointments having been given a 7 day ultimatum to obey the law, the CSOs will take the matter to court.
