Portland Cement Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Support Cyclone Freddy Victims
On August 6th, Portland Cement Malawi Ltd joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Malawi to inspect the progress of the houses that are being built in Mulanje for victims of Cyclone Freddy. The event followed a donation Portland Cement had made to support the construction of houses for people that were affected by the devastating cyclone. The company contributed 600 bags of cement to aid in constructing disaster-resilient homes for affected families at Nanchidwa Camp. This donation is playing a crucial role in the construction of safe and secure shelter for those who had lost their homes.
Head of marketing and corporate affairs Violet Vilili said she was impressed with the progress Habitat has made in building the houses for the victims. “Portland is committed to giving back to the communities where we operate through various Corporate Social Responsibility activities. We therefore identified the need to support Habitat for Humanity in this project” She added.
Victor Chambayika Mhango, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Malawi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Portland Cement for their vital support. “Their donation has been instrumental in helping us build 37 housing units, and we appeal to them to continue their support as we strive to bridge the gap in constructing additional units.”
Mhango called on additional stakeholders to collaborate and provide further assistance to support the construction project. The partnership between Portland Cement and Habitat for Humanity Malawi demonstrates a commitment to addressing the country’s needs, particularly in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy. With continued support, they hope to provide decent housing to all Victims in Nanchidwa.
