The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) has announced that the recent heavy rains have eroded Chagwa dam’s major embankments, which may result into flooding.
In a recently released statement, Dodma has revealed that Mulunguzi river will be flooded, which will affect surrounding areas like Mangasanja, Old Naisi, Matawale and other areas that are located in the river banks.
Dodma has therefore warned settlers of these areas to devise quick evacuation plans in case of an emergency. Meanwhile, engineers are working on reducing water in the dam as a permanent solution is being considered.
