Effective 1st June to 31st December 2020, Rab Processors will be distributing relief packs to 1860 football players that are under the regional/district football leagues from the Northern, Central and Southern regions in Malawi, as means to mitigate the coronavirus’ effects on football players in Malawi.
President of the Football Association of Malawi, Walter Nyamilandu, outlined that Rab Processors will make the monthly distributions as partnership with FAM’s second phase of COVID-19 measures, which involves distribution of items to all officials and players registered under the regional football associations. The program will see players receive a FAM COVID-19 relief pack which includes assorted items from Rab Processors, namely 10kg maize flour, 2kg brown sugar, 500g salt, 200g tea, 200g soyapieces, 2kg beans and 2 bars of soap. The CEO of Rab Processors, Ahmed Sunka, outlined that the donation will reduce the burden to the players and help them stay healthy and fit while they train at home, while also sharing with their families.
Nyamilandu thanked Rab Processors for their swift response, especially considering that Rab Processors already partnered with FAM, through the Malawi National team with vital water and the ThumbsUp football league. However Sunka outlined that Rab felt the need to help further, as their customers are football enthusiasts. “Rab is part of the FAM fraternity and we felt an urgent need and a sense of duty to come and rescue the Malawi footballers.” said Sunka.
Nyamilandu emphasized that it is important that during this difficult period, all players and officials have food on the table and not sleep on empty stomachs. The packs are valued at K10,000 each to be distributed to 1,860 players per month, who will be collecting the packs at their nearest Kulima Gold centres around Malawi. Committing the relief packs for 7 months from June, Sunka outlined that the Rabs Processors believes that this initiative will reduce the pandemic’s burden on the players and help them stay healthy and fit while they train at home, while also sharing with their families.
