Central East African Railways (CEAR) has announced fares for train fares Blantyre to/from, Balaka, Liwonde, Nayuchi and Limbe.
The firm took part in government’s plan to construct an 810km railway that passes through Mozambique and Zambia, which would decrease transport costs by 60% upon its completion, said Sidik Mia, who was Minister of Transport by then.
Malawi’s already existing railway was mostly damaged or not functional, but is being reconstructed and lengthened further, with CEAR announcing that Limbe-Sandama and Limbe-Nyaka routes are almost completed, reviving rail transport in Malawi.
Ready to transit passengers to local destinations, fares are categorized according to two classes, namely business class and business class. From Limbe to/from Blantyre is K250 in premier class, with K50 more in business class. Liwonde, Balaka and Nayuchi trips can be taken from Blantyre or Limbe, with prices ranging from K1450 minimum to K3500 maximum.
