The Reserve Bank of Malawi has approved MobiPay LTD to pilot the first digital payments aggregation platform in Malawi.
As an aggregator, MobiPay will work with digital merchants to accept payments from a market of 9 million mobile wallets, that transacted mwk1.3 TRILLION in Q2 of 2020 alone. The company is also rolling out its own POS network to supplement the digital merchants. “We will be publishing our API publicly so you can on board and start transacting M-commerce.” says a Facebook notice from the company.
The approval letter, signed by Deputy RBM Governor Grant Kabango, has outlined that the pilot phase of aggregation has been approved for 6 months, as contained in the Payments Systems Act of 2016. Following the results of the 6 periods, a final approval will follow after considering an independent audit by external auditors.
MobiPay is a mobile integrator, innovator and aggregator that helps businesses to connect and deliver services using appropriate technology in Africa.
