Taxes collected from the industry sector in 2019 have surpassed those collected in 2018 by 20% according to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Head of Corporate Affairs, Steve Kapoloma, who revealed the figures to The Nation newspaper.
According to Kapoloma, signs are there that things are turning upwards and in the right direction and MRA is optimistic that the growth of industrial companies it will entail that revenue will equally grow. “We just have to conclude the analysis but preliminary results show that we have grown by 20 percent but we will be able to do a thorough analysis of the year as we begin our operations in the coming days,” Kapoloma said.
Last month, in the spirit of celebrating a growth in tax collections, Kapoloma informed the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament that MRA is collecting over 80% of the taxes through E-Payment, adding that the authority is introducing a number of products and services through its modernization drive.
