Malawi’s leading plastic hardware manufacturer has clocked 21 this year. The brand and products of RK plastics are a household name as mainstream supermarkets have been selling the products for more than a decade.
RK Plastics stems from a humble beginning in 1997 with only four injection moulding machines and a staff of 30, growing into 25 machines and 100 more products by the new millennium. The company is one of the fewest, if not the only company to launch in this nation and branch out to more than two countries outside of Malawi; RK plastics has the international presence in Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Exporting to Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa, RK plastics registered a fleet of 40ft trucks in 2010, from 1 truck in 2005.
The success story of RK plastics is ongoing as the company now has its own outlets all over Malawi; 5 in Blantyre, 3 in Lilongwe, 1 in Mchinji and 2 in Mzuzu, not to mention other factories and outlets that are outside Malawi.
RK is currently working hand in hand with Basic Water Needs, a Dutch manufacturer of household water treatment products, in a project that is aimed at reducing Carbon dioxide emissions by 150,000 tons. The initiative is being supported by UNDP.
