According to a survey conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (Ifpri) half of the rural
population in the country has experienced an increase in food prices for their regular purchases in the past
three months.
“In rural areas, incidence of Covid-19 is low, suggesting that the direct health impacts of the disease are unlikely to be high.” says part of the report, “But disruptions resulting from national policies as well as people’s behaviours could still drive meaningful economic responses.”
Meanwhile, headline inflation rose from 7.1% in September, to7.5% in October, representing a 0.4% increment. According to figures from the National Statistical Office (NSO), the national month-to-month inflation rate for October 2020 stands at 2.5 percent compared to 1.3% registered in September, 2020. Also according to the report, the 7.5% inflation rate is 21.8% lower than the 9.6% inflation rate recorded during the same time last year.
