In response to Cyclone Idai victims, Federal Republic of Russia gave disaster relief worth USD $1 million (over K750 million).
Handing over the relief items was Russian Ambassador to Malawi, Sergey Bakharev, who donated various goods including tents, cooking oil, rice, tinned fish, tinned beef at Kamuzu International Airport Monday morning. Receiving the donation was Minister of Homeland Security, Nicholas Dausi, who thanked the Russian Government for the assistance. Dausi also remarked that the donated relief will help reach out to people affected with disasters in the camps.
Malawi was hit by floods in March 2019 that led to President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika to declare a state of disaster, as Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) announcing that it would take K30 billion to restore the lives of the affected families in Malawi.
