Ngolowindo Irrigation Scheme in Salima will be revived after the International Organisation for Migrants (IOM) injected $25,000 (about K20 million) for the rehabilitation of the warehousing facility, cold room and installation of solar powered electricity at the scheme.
IOM Regional Director Charles Allan Kwenin outlined that the scheme will help Malawians returning from South Africa to start a better life back home. “We believe that the returning migrants will use this facility to engage in serious commercial farming which will boost their livelihoods,” Kwenin said.
On the other hand, Agriculture Minister Lobin Lowe hailed IOM for rehabilitating the facility, especially to improve the lives of returning migrants. “I am very thankful to IOM for the rehabilitated facility. This will go a long way in providing a safe landing for our youths coming back from South Africa.” said the Minister.
