Save the Children has constructed and handed over a Covid-19 isolation centre at Pirimiti Rural Hospital in Zomba to support the district’s response.
During the handover ceremony, Zomba District director of health and social services Alexander Chijuwa outlined that the facility is important especially where cases are rising. “We set up five isolation centres. Luckily, we had 12 cases that were admitted. However, it is important to have more space in case the cases rise,” he said.
Meanwhile, the number of weekly new cases being reported in Africa have lowered by 14% in the last month, as WHO’s Africa region head Matshidiso Moeti said the daily number of cases being reported overall at the regional level, are decreasing.
