The Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) Chief Executive Officer, William Liabunya, announced that reclaiming buried dams and repairing machines damaged by the silt, has cost the parastatal a whopping K10 billion.
“Because of bare hills and bare rivers, we have a lot of siltation that happens.” said Liabunya, “A lot of silt is washed away and goes into the river which ends into our dams.”
Last September, Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima expressed satisfaction with the financial status of the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) and the strategic direction it is taking to achieve its goals. “For EGENCO, I have been updated on the company’s reforms performance status which shows tremendous progress in reforms implementation, strategic direction as well as the status of the organization’s financial health,” he said.
Also as the Minister of Economic Planning and Development Chilima is set to review the progress of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
