The Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises has expressed frustration at the delay to implement the law that states that 60% of government procurements should be given to indigenous Malawians with the remaining 40% to foreigner business people.
According to the Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe, the process has stalled by the Ministry of Justice, probably because of a huge workload they may be having but immediately it is gazetted it will be ready to go.
On the other hand, the chamber described the delay as disadvantageous for SMEs in Malawi. Part of the statement reads, signed by Executive Secretary, James Chiutsi, “..there have been other people that have monopolized the businesses, making it very difficult for indigenous Malawians to grow. So, we call upon the government to implement the guidelines with immediacy”.
