SolarAid Malawi donated 30 solar lamps and 20 portable solar lanterns to Mchinji District Hospital for lighting isolation centres and temporary screening sites.
SolarAid Malawi general manager Brave Mhone attributed the donation to the lack of electricity in most of the isolation and screening centres that have been constructed by the government, hence the donation was made in partnership with the Ministry of Health. “We have the responsibility to take part in fighting the pandemic. So, we are supporting the government’s Covid-19 response,” said Mhone.
Mchinji District director of health and social services Juliana Kanyengambeta was grateful for the donation, stating that blackouts which makes it difficult for health workers to attend to patients. “The lamps, therefore, will ensure that services are not interrupted,” she said.
As of 11:25 today, Malawi has registered 57 cases of COVID-19, 23 recoveries and 3 deaths.
