Having canceled flights to Malawi, South African Airways (SAA) has arranged procedures to cater for customers that were inconvenienced upon the flight cancellation announcement. A statement has been released with detailed arrangements, enlisted below;
Un-ticketed passengers:
For passengers that had booked but not ticketed, they will be rebooked to the next available flight
(a)Ticketed Individual passengers and groups
As for ticketed passengers between Johannesburg and Lilongwe, SAA will rebook the flights for them. The statement reads, “Re-accommodation of reservations has been made by South African Airways onto the closest available flight between Johannesburg and Lilongwe in the same booking class. The following are further instructions for ticketed individual passengers and groups.
- The booking owner can book ET between LLW and BLZ in the lowest available booking class
- Change fees will be waivered
- Tickets must be re-issued on/before 07 May 2019. The booking owner may re-issue the ticket.
- Tickets to be endorsed “INVOL Re-RRT due BLZ RUNWAY Closure/Date”.
- A full refund of the unused portion/ticket will only be considered once the aforementioned options
have been considered.
(b)Voyager
The following has been arranged for Voyager bookings.
(The below will only be applicable to Voyager Redemptions booked in I and X/class. Dynamic
Redemptions are handled as per above revenue procedure)
Voyager Un-ticketed passengers that have not been ticketed will be rebooked onto the next available flight.
Voyager Ticketed Customers that are holding SAA reservations between Johannesburg and Blantyre will be
re-accommodated as follows:
All Voyager customers in possession of SAA Award tickets issued on SAA ticket stock (083) are to be re-accommodated onto the operation between Johannesburg and Lilongwe. This is still subject to same redemption award classes.
The re-issuance of tickets must be made on/before 07 May 2019. The issuing agent may re-issue
the ticket. (Tickets to be endorsed “INVOL Re-RRT due BLZ RUNWAY Closure/Date”)
There will be a refund process for Voyager passengers, also a means to re-instate the Miles of awards for those customers who do not wish to be re-accommodated, have been arranged.
(c)Cost Centre (“Destination”)
Any applicable cost for the re-accommodation of passengers, whether for the services of other carriers or hotel accommodation or additional taxes, will be charged against the cost centre number where the change is taking place. For example, it is the responsibility of BLZ (origin BLZ) and (destination-for example JNB) the station/town office must take full responsibility for accuracy of rates and cost incurred so debited to (the” Route”) Cost Centre. (e.g. BLZ 1234 cancelled flights).
