Standard Bank Malawi yesterday donated K90 million-worth of personal protective equipment (PPE), which will be distributed to all major referral hospitals in the country.
Presenting the donation at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Standard Bank Malawi’s chief executive officer, William le Roux, attributed the donation to the bank’s contribution to fight the pandemic is all about protecting lives, economies, jobs and aspirations. “We want to keep hospitals a safe place for our customers and staff to come for treatment hence this donation. We thought it fitting to help front line personnel as they undertake their task of treating Covid-19 patients.” said le Roux.
Receiving the donation, KCH director Dr Jonathan Ngoma was grateful toward the donation, stating that it has come at a time when hospitals are stressed and pressed due to rising Covid-19 cases. As of 11:05am today, Malawi has registered 2497 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 795 recoveries and 40 deaths.
The donated items include 4 650 protective suits, 9 520 masks, 37 480 gloves, 1 000 hand sanitiser bottles and 20 infrared thermometers, which will be distributed to KCH, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Mzuzu Central Hospital, as each hospital will receive 1 500 protective suits, 3 000 masks and 12 160 gloves.
