The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) will be drilling Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in product improvement, a call made by the Minister of Labour, Ken Kandodo.
The development also follows after SMEs complained to the ministry that MBS takes a long time to certify their products. MBS Director General, Symon Mandala, said they will sensitise the SMEs on the need to have their products certified.
He also responded that some SMEs do not see the need to have their products certified and when they go on the market they are asked if their products are certified by MBS. Having no certification, they come back and want all the processes to be completed within a short period. “…So we are going to help them in capacity building so that the SMEs do not have issues with certification,” Mandala said.
