The Tea Association of Malawi (Taml) has said that while it is delivering better quality tea and sustaining living wages, the country has the capacity to improve the crop’s competitiveness and profitability.
Taml chairperson, Sangwani Hara, made the remarks at the third annual International Women’s Day commemoration where he recognized the role of women in the production chain. “The tea industry is cognisant of the fact that the advancement of Malawi’s economy is not possible without the participation of women,” Hara said.
On the other hand, the Government’s crop estimates show that yields this year will improve not only on maize and rice, but Millet, Sorghum, Groundnuts and cotton.
