Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM) plc has announced that the fire that gutted down Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) Microwave Building in Lilongwe, affected service delivery at its Network Monitoring Centre.
TNM Head of Brand and Marketing Communications, Louis Chipofya, said that connections towards international internet network were lost after the fire, along with backhaul links to various cities and towns in the north and central regions. According to Chipofya, voice and data services were also affected in the said areas, since last Tuesday evening. “TNM also lost about 70 percent of the internet backhaul capacity leading to lower than normal experience for internet browsing and video services,” Chipofya said.
On the bright side, TNM has managed to restore services in parts of Salima, Kasungu and Lilongwe, while tirelessly working on restoring all its mobile service operations.
