The College of Medicine (CoM) and TNM plc have announced a partnership that will see students receiving 10GB data bundles respectively, for online classes.
The initiative arrives as the coronavirus pandemic disrupted schools in the country as there is uncertainty on whether/when they should reopen. The Minister of Education Agnes NyaLonje outlined that the initiative will allow the students access to over 10 000 books on the Buku Digital Library.
Commenting on the initiative, the CoM principal Mwapatsa Mipando hailed the partnership as an initiative that will continue lessons with Emergency Remote Teaching. Nyalonje also hailed the initiative as means to move forward, as the pandemic may not subside anytime soon. On the other hand, TNM chief executive officer Michiel Buitelaar said the mobile phone network service provider believes that all Malawians deserve access to high-quality digital education. He said the services will enable students to access all relevant study materials on different education sites and access e-books through smartphones, tablets and computers, both online and offline.
Meanwhile as coronavirus cases are on the rise in Malawi and as the government has mandated wearing face masks in the general public, the initiative will see the graduation of more health workers in the country. As of 12:38pm today, Malawi registered 4658 confirmed cases, 2375 recoveries and 146 deaths.
