Tobacco farmers have reported concern after some buying companies are rejecting some varieties approved by the Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (Aret).
The farmers complained to Aret about the matter, specifying that buyers now prefer foreign varieties, to which Aret responded that a solution is in progress.
The tobacco demand has decreased from 174Kgs last year to 152Kgs this year; the decrease was announced after the crop was amidst maturity in fields, hence the speculation is that the buyers are looking for an excuse to buy lesser tobacco this season.
