The Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) still cannot disclose when the Malawi gold market will open, while everything that is necessary to start off the market, has been put in place.
However, TCC cannot be blamed, as tradition says the Head of State commences the market.
On the other hand, it can be assumed that negotiations with the buying companies have not been finalized, as various tobacco market authorities announced that they were making effort to increase the buyers demand for tobacco, since this year’s tobacco demand is lower as figures show that tobacco demand went from 174Kgs last year to 152kgs this year, which will leave a 52Kgs unsold.
TCC Chief Executive Officer said proposed dates have already been submitted to government and the market should be rolling out in the next two weeks.
