Tobacco sales this year are 13% higher than the previous market season, according to figures in a summary of the 2021 market provided by AHL Group.
In a period of 21 weeks, the market has earned $174.97 (about K143 billion) from 114 million kilograms (Kgs). The summary attributed the increment to the increased volume of traded tobacco and better average prices in the 2021 tobacco marketing season.
“The seasonal cumulative no-sale rejection on the auction burley market was lower at 11% this year, compared to 66% registered at the end of the season last year.” says the summary.
The 2021 marketing season took 21 weeks compared to 19 weeks in 2020.
