As French energy giant Total has revealed finding oil and gas discovery on the offshore Brulpadda South Africa, analysts in the nation have speculated a tax sting on the development.
The analysts have given examples of Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and Mozambique, all countries that amended fiscal terms upon petroleum discovery.
Should South Africa indeed review her fiscal terms, foreign investors may draw back, but only if the reviewed tax will be hefty. As some analysts have confidence in the current fiscal terms to remain unchanged, while others have said that South Africa cannot be ruled out for fiscal term amendment.
