Following approval from the Cabinet, the National Tourism Policy (NTP) will launch in December, as it has been hailed as means for enhancing the tourism sector.
The development follows an announcement by the Director of Tourism, Isaaac Katopola, who said that a new marketing strategy is in the making to put in place mechanisms that will increase the number of locals visiting tourism facilities in the country. The drafted Domestic Tourism Marketing Strategy (DTMS) is expected to promote collaboration with various players in the tourism sector. The initiative serves as a much needed development for locals since such services are not affordable for the targeted demographic, as mainstream resorts are pricing themselves in foreign currency, which has been the major constraint where local tourism is involved.
On the other hand, the new Tourism Policy will see mainstreaming of tourism issues at all planning levels to enhance integrated planning, comprehensive review of the tourism law to replace the Tourism and Hotels Act of 1964.
