Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has urged Malawians to embrace the concept of cooperatives, stating them as key to rid the nation of poverty.
This was said at Mtikita Community Savings and Investment Promotion (Comsip), which is located in Mwangata Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Somba in Blantyre. Mtikita Cosmip is one of the savings and lending groups formed out of Public Works Programme in 2010. Members of the Comsip were told to embrace cooperatives to ensure means of making profits. Plans for opening a butchery at the Comsip, but fears of cheap prices by buyers were the main concern.
The ministry’s deputy director for cooperatives, Mercy Safarao remarked that cooperatives should be embraced due to the difference they are bringing in people’s lives, also depending on how cooperatives members mentality towards them.
