Following the implementation of the Control of Goods Act, the Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe, says that all traders requiring import and export permits will have to reapply for new licences.
Gwengwe outlined that all traders that intend to acquire new permits, have until August 7. Meanwhile, the traders will have to clear their goods currently in the import or export process under the old Act. On the other hand, Gwengwe hailed the new Act for its transparency and the protection of local production and markets, as from now on, only products in deficit are authorized to be imported.
The Act was passed in Parliament in May 2018 but came into effect on July 24 2020.
