Ulendo Airlink has released a notice to inform its valued customers and the general public if the Cessna 0210 aircraft that overshot the runway at Likoma Island at 10:30 this morning.
According to the notice, Civil Aviation authorities have been notified and are being flown to Likoma Island by Ulendo Airlink for a further assessment of the situation. Currently there is no information available on what happened as the statement partly reads, “We are currently not in a position to determine the cause of the incident and all protocols are being followed as stipulated under aviation regulations.”
Through the notice, Ulendo Airlink hints that the situation is the first of its nature, having been operating flights to Likoma Island for over 10 years without incident. While the notice does not disclose the names of the passengers, it has been confirmed that in the plane was Egenco Operations Engineer Mr. Lyton Chauwa and Public Relations Officer Mr. Moses Gwaza. The notice does say, though, that none of the passengers sustained any injuries and the pilot was taken to the Likoma Island hospital for medical assessment after experiencing a minor head abrasion, of which the pilot has been discharged.
