The bill which was proposing the unbundling of the University of Malawi (Unima) to create standalone universities, has been passed, approved by President Peter Mutharika.

With the passing of the bill, Malawi Polytechnic will be called Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences while College of Medicine and Kamuzu College of Nursing have been combined and will now be called Malawi University of Health Sciences.

State House Director of Communications Bright Molande confirmed the progress, adding that  the development will change the landscape of university education in Malawi by promoting tertiary education in the country.
