According to the National Planning Commission (NPC), the development of the Vision 2020 successor document will cost about K904 million. The successor blueprint, National Transformation 2063, is currently being developed and is scheduled to be launched in July 2020.
Launched in 1998, Vision 2020 will expire next year. Since then, it has been implemented as a guiding document for the country’s national development plan towards sustainable national development.
In June this year, The National Planning Commission (NPC) announced that a new long-term national development plan and successor blue-print to the Vision 2020. NPC director general Thomas Munthali toldThe Nation newspaper that the commission has since proposed to name the successor document National Transformational 2063, which is aligned to the Agenda 2063 period and continental aspirations.
The development comes as Vision 2020 seems unsuccessful, as plans for Malawi to attaining sustainable growth and development and becoming a middle income country are far from implementation.
