During a meeting between the Vice President Saulos Chilima and the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), Chilima promised the commission that he will step in to help fast tracking the amendment of the Competition and Fair Trading Act.

According to CFTC Executive Director, James Kaphale, some of the proposed amendments of the Act is to have a levy on some business transactions to look at ways and means on how this levy can be imposed.

During the meeting, the commission presented regulatory, administration and legal reforms of which were centered on the amendment of the Act. According to CFTC, the proposed Act amendment was submitted to the Ministry of Justice but has stalled since.
