A 2019 survey by the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) and Uganda-based Africa Freedom of Information Centre (Afic) has revealed that less than one percent of Malawian women do business with government.
According to the study, some female contractors faced sexual harassment to get contracts, while others perceived that there was widespread discrimination, as contracts are mostly awarded to companies owned by men.
On the other hand, FDH Bank has set aside K500 million, purposed to empower and promote women to fulfill their full business potential by providing access to working capital.
A statement by the banks Management, released on International Women’s Day, has attributed the fund to the 558,090 women who own micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to a 2019 Finscope Survey that outlined the women face difficulties in accessing formal credit.
