The World Bank has announced that it has added $545 million on top of almost $150 million that was set aside to help flood victims in Malawi. Mozambique and Zimbabwe. These funds have totaled up to almost $700 million for the cause.
President of the World Bank Group, David Malapass, confirmed that the resources were being put together, after he personally toured the areas affected in Beira. “The Bank is working closely with our partners to help the population recover from these terrible storms, build back stronger than before and improve countries.
The Crisis Response Window (CRW) will facilitate the funds, providing Mozambique with $350 million for water supply, rebuild damaged public infrastructure and crops and support disease prevention, among many other aims.
Malawi will receive $120 to restore agricultural livelihoods, reconstruct priority infrastructure and support disease prevention, while Zimbabwe will receive $75 million for multi-sector livelihood support and operations for recovery focused on social welfare and community interventions.
