World Vision Malawi (WVM) Country Director to Malawi, Hazel Nyathi revealed that WVM has targeted 16,000 smallholder farmers to work with on end to end processes. The farmers are a total from three districts of the country.
The initiative has come after a consultative meeting with WVM donors who are investors for communities that depend on agriculture, who noted that most small holder farmers in the country are trapped in poverty.
“We want to engage the farmers from the production side to the marketing process, making sure that they get sound and fair economic benefits,” Nyathi said.
Senior Vice President of World Vision United States, Christopher Glynn revealed that over US$ 5 million has been invested in the project and WVM is targeting an injection of US$ 12 million into the project for the next five years.
