Zomba City Council has calmed its residents, stating that after scrutinizing Chagwa Dam, there is no immediate danger of collapsing and that the public should not panic.
The City Council announced that the scrutinisation exercise, carried out by engineers, The MDF, Police and other stakeholders. At the end of the meeting a consesus was reached that Chagwa Dam is not in immediate danger of collapsing and that the public should not panic.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) had recently announced that the recent heavy rains have eroded Chagwa dam’s major embankments, which would result into flooding.
